Postdoctoral Call
THE MILLENIUM MIGRA NUCLEUS CALLS FOR APPLICATIONS FOR POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER
The Migra Millennium Nucleus, funded by the National Agency for Research and Development (ANID), dedicated to contribute to the understanding of the consequences of recent waves of migration to Chile, opens a selection process for a Postdoctoral Researcher position.
I. Description of the work
The one-year postdoctoral position is scheduled to begin in March 2024 and end in March 2025. The selected researcher will conduct independent research associated with one of the three lines of research of the Migra Millennium Nucleus.
The selected candidate for this postdoctoral position will be academically linked to Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez.
II. Millennium Nucleus Migra
The central objective of the Migration Millennium Nucleus is to examine the impact of immigration on specific areas of social integration, such as labor, education, health, security and law, with a particular focus on understanding the drivers of public perceptions and how to minimize possible mismatches between reality and perceptions of migration.
Migra's research is organized along three lines:
LEGAL FRICTIONS:
In this line, work is being done to identify the legal, institutional and imperfect labor market barriers to the integration of immigrants, with emphasis on the study of how the legal awareness of immigration status determines the accessibility and change of labor and financial positions of immigrants, as well as the extent to which fintech technologies can facilitate the labor and economic integration of the immigrant population.
CULTURAL AND INSTITUTIONAL FRICTIONS:
In this line, we seek to characterize the integration process of immigrants, specifically the integration of children into the school system; the access of immigrants to financial services and labor markets; and the contribution of highly educated immigrants (e.g., physicians) to the strengthening of state capacities through the provision of public goods and services.
DISCRIMINATION AND PERCEPTION:
This line seeks to examine local public attitudes and perceptions towards immigration, focusing on potential gaps and their impact in areas such as security, education, finance and the labor market, and to assess the effectiveness of innovative interventions to address misperceptions about immigration.
The proposed research project must be related to one of these three lines. The selected candidate must conduct independent research, in interaction with the researchers of the Nucleus. The position is expected to lead to interdisciplinary publications, whether co-authored or not with researchers of the Nucleus.
III. Professional profile, competencies and skills
Chilean and foreign candidates who have acquired their PhD in the last 5 years are invited to apply. In exceptional cases (maternity, postnatal leave, among others), documented situations that justify extending this period may be considered. Candidates in the process of obtaining their degree must indicate the expected date of graduation in their application.
IV. Terms of Reference
The position is equivalent to a full working day starting March 2024 and ending March 2025 and will be formalized through a fee-based professional services contract. The salary will be established in accordance with the guidelines and standards of the National Research and Development Agency (ANID)
.
